Mount Minami-Katsuragi Kagami no Shuku Anrakugyohon
The location of sutra mound #14 is thought to be in one of two places. One is here, close to the peak of Mount Minami-Katsuragi. (The other is in Kotakiji Temple.) This place, marked by two stones, was an ancient Shugendo training site called Kagami no Shuku. Despite no written records of a sutra mound being at Kagami no Shuku, many Shugendo practitioners make a pilgrimage to this spot. Legend has it that the great 14th century samurai Kusunoki Masashige, inspired by the view, buried a sacred mirror (kagami) here.
