Mount Kongo Nyorai-jinrikihon
Sutra mound #21. This mound is at the top of Mount Yushutsu, to the east of the summit of Mount Kongo. (The 1,125-meter-high Mount Kongo is the highest peak of the Izumi-Kongo Range and was called Mount Katsuragi or Mount Takama in ancient times.) Walk the trail from the torii gate of Katsuragi-jinja Shrine, where Hitokotonushi no Okami (“god of one word”) is enshrined, and you’ll find a stone monument atop a stone foundation. The sutra mound is believed to have been at nearby Iwaya-monju, a site dedicated to the Monju bodhisattva, but was moved to its present location in 1971.
