Nakatsugawa Gyoja-do

Nakatsugawa, which is also known as “Chudai,” plays a central role in Katsuragi Shugen. The Katsuragi Kanjo ritual in which the title of Yamabushi is conferred upon followers by Shogo-in (the head temple of Shugendo in Kyoto) is hosted at Gyoja-do. In the Katsurei-zakki guidebook written in 1849 by the priest Chiko,it is introduced as Nakatsugawa Koso-do,which enshrines En no Gyoja.
